Best Brushing Techniques

Since you will most likely only be seeing our Los Angeles dentist twice a year, it is up to you to keep your teeth and gums in proper health throughout the rest of the year. But you should not be absent-mindedly brushing your teeth. Here are some tips on getting the most out of each cleaning:
• Brush for two minutes. One way to make sure you brush for that long is to divide your mouth into four sections and spend 30 seconds cleaning each area.
• A soft-bristled toothbrush is often best. A toothbrush with stiff bristles can irritate the gums. Additionally, use a toothbrush that fits comfortably in your mouth.
• Use toothpaste that is not too abrasive. And see if you can find one that is fortified with fluoride.
• Do not brush too aggressively. It does not take a lot of pressure to remove bacteria, so use gentle strokes.
• Replace your toothbrush once every three to four months. And replace your toothbrush after you have been sick.
• For added health and fresher breath, brush your tongue as well.
If you take care of your oral health throughout the year, you will have no reason to be anxious about seeing the dentist. You will have confidence that your smile is as healthy as can be.
