Problems with Dentures
Although dentures are a time-tested way to replace teeth, they are not without issues. In fact, many common problems eventually arise among long-term denture wearers. These may necessitate receiving emergency dentures in Los Angeles.
These common problems can include:
• Dentures slipping or moving around the mouth - This problem develops as the dentures lose the support of the jaw bone and gum tissue, which tend to deteriorate over time.
• Trouble chewing certain foods - Often resulting from an alignment issue, your dentures may simply need to be slightly adjusted to ease this discomfort.
• Difficulty speaking and/or embarrassing clicking sounds - In this instance, your dentures may need to be replaced or repositioned.
• Loss of suction/adhesive strength - As you age, your jaw bone and mouth tissues shrink, affecting what may have initially been a perfect fit for your dentures. Dry mouth, a side effect of certain prescription medications, can also lead to poorly fitting dentures.
• Mouth sores - Dentures can rub against the insides of the mouth and result in a sore. This usually occurs while chewing food or clenching your teeth.
• Sudden appearance of new lip or mouth wrinkles - This often happens when the denture slips too far back into the mouth, no longer supporting the mouth or lips.
If you suffer from any of these common problems and need immediate denture repair, call our emergency dentist as soon as possible. Be sure to bring your dentures or partial dentures along with you to your appointment.
