Discomfort to Expect
The treatment area is likely to be sore in the days after extraction. In most cases, over-the-counter pain relievers or prescription pain medications prescribed by our dentist should resolve this pain. However, patients should contact our office immediately if severe pain appears because it could be a sign of infection or other complications.
Prevention of Problems
Patients should eat a soft, nutritious diet immediately after tooth extraction to support the development of new tissues. Overexertion should be avoided because it could potentially dislodge the healing tissue and delay recovery. Alcohol, smoking, and straw usage should also be avoided as these activities can disrupt healing.
After having teeth removed, patients can ask our dentist about options for replacing those teeth. Dentures, dental implants, and dental bridges may be available depending on eligibility and treatment goals. At a consultation with our expert in dental extraction in Houston, patients can learn more about the recovery process after tooth extraction.
