Root Canal Treatment Procedure
You have probably heard a lot about root canals and how painful they can be. However, the idea that root canals are excruciatingly painful is a common misconception. A root canal is no more painful than any other dental procedure, and if your tooth pulp has become infected, it is a necessary procedure that needs to be done to ensure further damage does not occur. So with all the misconceptions out there, you might be wondering, “How is a root canal done?”
Our endodontists will begin by taking an X-ray of the infected tooth to determine where the infection is located. Next, our dentist will apply an anesthetic to the area, so no pain will be felt during your time in the dentist’s chair. If you suffer from severe anxiety, talk to our dentist about sedation dentistry available to you.
Using the X-ray as a reference, our dentist will drill a hole into the infected tooth. The inflamed pulp will be removed, and the inside of the tooth will carefully be cleaned and filled with medicated packing material. Finally, a crown will be placed on the tooth in order to restore its natural look.
Root canals have a very high success rate, so do not hesitate to contact our office if you feel you are in need of treatment.
